BodyMatters welcomes Remie to the team!

RemieNICKNAME: Rem

QUALIFICATIONS: Currently completing my Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

ACHIEVEMENTS: My biggest achievements have been graduating from high school and remaining motivated in my undergraduate degree.

WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY? I have always been a very social person, who loves to help and interact with others. As I became older I started to become more and more interested in human behavior. I found that Psychology was a great way for me to learn about human behavior and still have the opportunity to engage with people on a daily basis.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS? I chose to work at BodyMatters because I found their approach and the initiatives to be inspiring. I think BodyMatters is a great organization that raises awareness of eating disorders and their related causes, and it was a great way for me to learn more about this area of Psychology. I am excited to become part of the team!

YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE: ‘Whatever you are, be a good one.’ Abraham Lincoln

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: I see myself having finished my honours and hopefully my masters in clinical psychology (fingers crossed!). I would love to be a practicing psychologist working with children as well as people with eating disorders. I also hope to have a partner, be a homeowner and be on my way to starting a family.

FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES: I love outdoor sports and activities, particularly soccer, walking, snowboarding and swimming… pretty much anything that gets me outside in the sunshine.

FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: Travelling is my biggest hobby, I love to experience different parts of the world and learn about the cultures that they bring with them. I also enjoy spending my free time with friends and family, discovering new restaurants and cafes around Sydney and relaxing at the beach!

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL: I think that I am someone that can often read social situations quite well, and anticipate whether my friends/family will need comfort and support or just someone to share a laugh with.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: Positivity and self-confidence. People who are able to see the positive side of life, find pleasure in the small things and have confidence to achieve their goals always inspire me.

WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES: My family have always been my heroes, particularly my grandmother and mum who encompass many of the qualities I hope to embody in the future.

3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND: My closest friend, my bed and an endless supply of music.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE: Ben & Jerry’s ‘Half-Baked’ and a good movie night in on a rainy night.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE: It’s so hard to choose, but if I had to I would say Dirty Dancing. The soundtrack and musical are equally as good as the film!

FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL: I’ve been lucky enough to do quite a bit of travelling in the past few years, with Austria and South of France definitely being my top two. There is always more travelling someone can do, and I would love to go to India and explore the UK.

IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE: If I didn’t end up pursuing Psychology I would probably be studying either Speech Pathology or Occupational Therapy – those two professions have always interested me.
