Psychologist & Family Therapist

Kylie is a psychologist and researcher with a longstanding interest in eating and weight difficulties and body image concerns. Both Kylie’s Honours degree in Psychology and subsequent PhD research focused on the social, cognitive, and emotional triggers of overeating.

Kylie is an empathetic and supportive Psychologist. She works collaboratively with her clients and selects treatment approaches carefully based on individual needs and preferences. Kylie utilises evidence-based approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Kylie strongly believes that by identifying what matters the most to each of us, we can make purposeful and sustained changes to improve our lives. A key part of the treatment is identifying and working towards achieving clients’ goals for therapy. Kylie has experience in working with people with comorbid psychological (e.g., depression, anxiety) and physical health conditions (e.g., cancer, diabetes, chronic pain). She has a particular interest in supporting people to reduce their disease risk and to better manage chronic health conditions in whichever ways are most feasible for the client (e.g., medication, diet, physical activity, bariatric surgery).

Kylie has over 14 years experience as a psychologist in academic, not-for-profit, and private settings in Australia, Singapore, and England. Most recently, Kylie held the position of Associate Professor of Psychology at Australian Catholic University, where she both led and was involved in research projects that had the ultimate goal of supporting people to effectively manage and cope with chronic health conditions, such as obesity, diabetes and cancer. Kylie has a particular interest in what motivates people to make and sustain changes to health behaviours (such as physical activity and diet) and the social impact of living with a chronic health condition. Kylie is committed to conducting research that has an impact on practice and disseminating her research findings to healthcare professionals and consumers.

In addition, Kylie provides Maudsley Family Therapy for young people with restrictive eating.

Kylie has a Masters degree and PhD in health psychology. She is a full member of the Australian Psychological Society and an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society. Kylie offers rebates under Medicare and private health insurance. Kylie holds an Honorary Associate position within the Graduate School of Health at the University of Technology Sydney.

Kylie is available for appointments at BodyMatters on Mondays and Tuesdays.
