NICKNAME: Georgie, Gigi or G
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Psychological Science and Graduate Diploma of Behavioural Science (Psychology)
ACHIEVEMENTS: Up until now, I could have named a number of achievements. But now that I’m a registered Psychologist, I can definitely say that this has been the biggest hurdle I have conquered so far in life.
WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY? I told myself as a 16 year old that I wanted to become a psychologist. I think it’s built in my DNA to help people (thanks Mum!). Life of course took some twists and turns that took me away from my dream, but eventually, I took a chance and made the decision to trust that 16 year old. Looking back, I have no regrets that life took me down the road it did.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS? Life wouldn’t be the same for me without BodyMatters. I was fortunate enough to be offered my first internship when working through my registration program. What drew me to want to work at BodyMatters was my relationship with my body. I had always viewed it as a machine growing up, and I wanted to teach others that there is more to our bodies than movement. Self-love and respect for our bodies is vital as part of having a healthy relationship with oneself.
YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE: “If the person you are talking to doesn’t appear to be listening, be patient. It may simply be that he has a small piece of fluff in his ear.” – Winnie the Pooh
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: Continuing to perfect the art of work/life balance
FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES: Sport has always been part of my life and something I have excelled in. I really enjoy watching sport and am always up for getting involved in watching a game – especially when I’m travelling.
FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: I love to travel – particularly during a Northern Hemisphere Christmas. I’m quite a traditionalist and love the magic of a
winter wonderland and Christmas lights.
WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL: I have the memory like an elephant, which at times amazes (and bugs) my family. I have a knack at remembering details, which in
the past seemed pointless, but I’m now learning in this work is a useful skill.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: I’m a big believer of gut instincts and the gifts that come from hard times, so my life experiences and challenges have played a big role in the decisions I’ve made.
WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES: Penny from Inspector Gadget. As a kid, I used to run around my backyard talking into my watch or books. Who knew that it’d become a reality!!
3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND: My music, my pillow and sunscreen.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE: My first response would be chocolate? Obviously! When I really need to take some time out from chaos, I take my
paddleboard out onto the harbour in the morning before the ferry and boat traffic begins.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE: Anything with Tom Hanks or Robin Williams
FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL: I love travelling through California. There’s so much to offer and it’s somewhere that I feel very connected to.
IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE: I would have owned a bakery – I’m obsessed with baking!
