BodyMatters welcomes Rebecca to the team!

We asked Rebecca a few questions about herself and we invite you to “get to know her” too, as you join us in welcoming her to our team!

NICKNAME: Bec

QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor of Social Science (Psychology)(Honours).

ACHIEVEMENTS: Completing my qualification in psychology is definitely an achievement for me. In particular my thesis, is something I’m quite proud of! After university I went on to complete two years of internship in order to gain my full registration and this was certainly two of the more challenging years of my life so far!

WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY? Initially in my earlier years of high school I wanted to be a forensic scientist as science was always something I was naturally quite good at. Once I got to year 11 and started studying chemistry, I realised that being a forensic scientist would mean that I would spend most of my days in a lab, fairly isolated from other people. I’ve always been a people person and loved working with people so after realising this, I turned my attention to psychology. For me, it was the perfect mix – I would get to study the science of people!

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS? I came across an opportunity to work at BodyMatters. After meeting with the team and learning about the BodyMatters approach I knew it was an organisation I wanted to become a part of.

YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE: “In a time of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act” – George Orwell.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: I suspect I will have completed more study as studying is something that I enjoy – so hopefully I’ve completed a Masters or some other postgraduate training in psychology or a related area. I also hope to be more well traveled, and maybe thinking about a family!

FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES: I love to get out there and give pretty much anything a go – I’m always keen to try new things! Some of my favourite activities include anything from water skiing, wake boarding and snow boarding to horse-riding, bushwalking or going for a bike ride.

FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: I love anything to do with the surf, sun and sand and you’ll generally find me at the beach on my days off during summer. I also really enjoy a good road trip and exploring new places!

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL: I’m a reasonably quick thinker and a fast talker. Both tend to get me through situations where I need to think on my feet!

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: Ordinary everyday people! You don’t have to look too far or wide to find inspiring people doing inspiring things. I am continually inspired by my clients and the people I meet through the work that I do.

WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES: I can’t really remember having too many childhood heroes. I’d like to say my heroes were my role models – my parents, grandparents and older siblings/cousins.

3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND: This is a tough one! I’d definitely like to have my laptop with wi-fi connection and unlimited downloads, some kind of bedding for comfort and warmth (I hate to be cold!), and I’d like to be practical and say a knife.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE: I find it hard to pick between my top three – red wine, chocolate and soft cheeses. I prefer to have all three at once!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE: There are too many to list, but The Notebook is definitely a favourite of mine.

FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL: I haven’t done nearly as much travelling as I would like to. I have visited Bali and Fiji and loved both. Anything tropical is always a winner for me! I also enjoy travelling back to my hometown of Mudgee for a bit of wine tasting!

IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE: I still have an interest in Forensic Science although realistically if I didn’t pursue psychology I’d probably study Pharmacy.
