Meet Kate!

NICKNAME: Most people just call me Kate!

QUALIFICATIONS: I hold a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies (psychology), a Graduate Diploma and a Master’s in Professional Psychology.

ACHIEVEMENTS: Completing a psychology masters, living abroad twice, once in London and most recently in Barcelona, Spain for a couple years while teaching English and trying my darndest to learn Spanish.

WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY? I have always been fascinated about why and how people think and behave the way they do. I also went through some difficult situations as a young person and remember saying to myself that if I were ever in a position to help others, I would. When I learned what Psychology was all about it resonated with me and I found myself pursuing it as a means to express that calling to help others build resilience and create positive change.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS? I was excited to receive an offer to come on board at BodyMatters as I had heard positive things about the practice and the culture in the team. I am also excited to work with people in a holistic way that includes more than just mental health, and can serve people in a really practical way that sees tangible results.

YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE: “Do something today that your future self will thank you for”.

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: Professionally, to continue helping people in a mental health (and more) capacity. Personally, to continue growing, changing and pursuing my love of adventure & travel while building relationships with family and friends.

FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES: I am a big fan of beach volleyball. Cannot get enough!

FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: I love travel, adventure and new experiences, outdoor activities, camping and creating fun memories with friends.

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL: I am oddly flexible! I also have some intriguing party tricks…

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: People who have a desire to leave a positive mark on the world and make it happen inspire me. Clients I work with, and also friends, who have weathered storms, championed them and never give up – that’s really inspiring!!

WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES: The Care Bears!

3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND: A yacht, a friend, and a genie to wish for more things!

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE: A good glass of red wine and a platter of cheese (especially blue cheese).

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE: I have a broad taste and love a silly comedy like Anchorman and Zoolander, heart warmers like Forrest Gump, adventure classics like Lord of the Ring, and rom coms like Notting Hill and Crazy Stupid Love.

FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL: Anywhere in Europe but especially Italy! I am looking forward to travelling South America and Africa next.

IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE: Psychology and the resilience and positive change it can create tends to align with what I feel part of my “calling” is… But if it wasn’t expressed through psychology I reckon I would have ended up being an Occupational Therapist, in emergency/crisis response of some kind, or some form of teacher/trainer, or a pastor.
