NICKNAME: Sars, Sarsy

QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology), Bachelor of Applied Science (Psychology) (Honours), Master of Psychology (Clinical)

ACHIEVEMENTS: My little family are absolutely my greatest achievement.

WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY? My interest in psychology stems from a desire to help others, an interest in human behaviour (and particularly human suffering), and realising that I feel most comfortable in those ‘deeper’ interactions with others.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS? After having a bit of a break from working with clients with eating difficulties, I realised that I really missed this work. In getting back into this more specialised area it was important to me to work for a practice with values and philosophies that align with my own and so BodyMatters was the ideal choice.

YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE: ‘You were born to make mistakes, not to fake perfection.’

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: In 10 years I will have teenage children and so imagine I will be continuing to seek my ideal balance between career/family/health/recreation. I would love to travel with my children and allow them to experience different countries and cultures, and to just go on adventures together.

FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES: Pilates and bushwalking.

FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: Reading, socialising, going away for weekends with friends.

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL: I’ve been putting a lot of effort recently into learning how to brew the perfect coffee – it’s more involved than people think!

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: I think mothers are amazing.

WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES: When I was younger I really looked up to doctors/nurses/vets – the helpers.

3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND: My bed, music and wine.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE: Getting a good, remedial massage.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE: I like thriller/horror movies like Seven, Silence of the Lambs and the Sixth Sense.

FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL: I’ve been very lucky to do a lot of overseas travel and particularly loved Berlin and Istanbul. Closer to home I enjoy getting away to anywhere surrounded by nature – near a beach or in the bush.

IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE: A paramedic or working with animals.
