Nickname: Bec

Qualifications: Bachelor of Arts, Graduate Diploma in Psychology, Bachelor of Science (Honours) at the University of Sydney.

Achievements: Becoming a registered Psychologist and backpacking overseas for one year.

Why did you pursue Psychology? From an early age I knew I wanted to be in a ‘helping’ profession and had a fascination with human behaviour and the things that make us all different and the same! I originally decided to study Psychology after being a swimming teacher for children with intellectual disability.

Why did you choose to work at BodyMatters? I have a strong interest in working with people with eating disorders and supporting people with their mental and physical health and wellbeing.

Favourite quote: “Promise me you’ll always remember: you’re braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think”. (A.A. Milne).

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Professionally, my aim is to complete my Masters of Clinical Psychology as well as continuing to support young people and adults on their journey to recovery. Personally I hope to be continuing on my own journey with my friends and family and perhaps being lucky enough to fit in some more travel adventures at home and overseas.

Favourite sports or activities: I love the outdoors and enjoy walking in the bush and camping weekends away. I also love playing hockey.

Favourite hobbies or interests: I enjoy a good book, spending time at the beach and seeing friends. I also love travelling, and researching new destinations!

What is your secret skill? Karaoke!

What or who inspires you? My clients inspire me everyday, and if I had to pick one well-known inspiration it would Nelson Mandela, an amazing advocate for human rights.

Who were your childhood heroes?  Cathy Freeman

3 things you would take on a desert Island: My family, a good book and a stove!

What is your favourite indulgence? A good cocktail, or gelato.

What is your favourite movie: There are so many and I have eclectic taste, enjoying everything from Finding Nemo to Top Gun, Schindler’s List and Love Actually!

Favourite places to travel: I have been lucky to travel to some amazing places. I love France, Southeast Asia and South America. I spent 6 months backpacking through South America, from Colombia all the way to the southern-most part of Argentina. I like anywhere where there is a good combination of adventure and culture!

If you didn’t pursue psychology, what other profession would you pursue? I can’t imagine not being a Psychologist, but if I hadn’t gone down that path I could picture myself being an Occupational Therapist.
