Madalyn is a non-judgemental, empathetic and genuine psychologist at Body Matters.Madalyn holds a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Graduate Diploma of Professional Psychology. She is also an associate member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).
Madalyn has a longstanding interest in eating disorders and body image concerns and is passionate about restoring her client’s relationship with food, exercise and their body in order to improve their overall quality of life. Madalyn is also passionate about changing the current culture of unrealistic and rigid standards of beauty, an obsession with being thin, the constant searching for quick fix solutions and the loss of trust in one’s own body.
Madalyn’s psychology career to date has provided her with experience in a range of settings including private practice, school settings and as part of an interdisciplinary team researching the role of intentions in predicting health related behaviours.
Madalyn is experienced in the psychological assessment and intervention of a variety of mental health issues that can often present simultaneously with eating disorders and body image concerns including stress, anxiety, depression and adjustment to significant life events. Madalyn believes that the relationship between a client and therapist is the most robust predictor of therapeutic outcomes. She works collaboratively with her clients, tailoring treatment to meet their individual needs, using evidence based approaches such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness and Motivational Interviewing. Madalyn supports the Health at Every Size Approach (HAES) and works from a non-dieting framework.
