Welcoming Sophie Ballinger to the BodyMatters Australasia Team

BodyMatters Australasia is excited to welcome Sophie Ballinger, our new Clinical Psychologist, who specialises in eating disorders. Sophie joins us with a robust educational background from the University of Newcastle, where she earned a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) and a Master of Clinical Psychology.

Sophie will be based in our Maitland office, offering both in-person consultations and telehealth services. She will be available on Tuesdays and Fridays to accommodate a range of client needs.

Sophie’s approach is characterised by her warmth and empathy, helping individuals to manage the challenges associated with eating disorders and mental health. Here’s how Sophie can support clients:

  • Special interest in Eating Disorders: Facilitates meaningful lifestyle changes and improves comfort with one’s emotions.
  • Diverse Treatment Methods: Utilises a range of evidence-based treatments including:
    • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
    • Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E)
    • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
    • Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
    • Schema Therapy
  • Comprehensive Assessments: Has experience in diagnosing autism and ADHD.
  • Client-Centred Therapy: Offers goal-focused, tailored therapy in a collaborative environment.

Sophie was drawn to BodyMatters because of its commitment to addressing disordered eating and body image concerns. Outside her professional life, Sophie is passionate about the outdoors, often found trail running or engaging in her hobbies like gardening, reading, and spending time with loved ones.
