QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science (Psychology)(Hons 1), Master of Psychology (Health), PhD in Health Psychology
ACHIEVEMENTS: From a professional perspective, finishing my PhD was probably my biggest achievement. It was a very challenging time in my life, but I learnt a lot in the process about myself and what I wanted to do in life. I am also a very proud mother of two boys, who inspire and challenge me daily!
WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY? I have always enjoyed talking to people and working out what motivates them and what influences their behaviour. My friends at school often shared their concerns with me and I think this played a huge role in my choosing psychology as a profession.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS? I share the values and ethos of BodyMatters and I feel there is a good fit with my own experience and interests.
YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE: “I have learnt that courage is not the absence of fear but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear”. Nelson Mandela
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: Hopefully spending more time in the country and enjoying seeing my boys grow into young men.
FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES: Running, kicking the ball around with my boys, going to the beach, just being outside.
FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: I love reading a good book and getting caught up in the story.
WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL: I can read really quickly. I have been known (when I’m on holidays) to finish reading a book or two a day.
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: The resilience, strength, and courage people show in adversity.
WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES: Princess Leia from Star Wars (played by Carrie Fisher) was one of my childhood heroes. Looking back, I think I liked her because she had the good taste to fall for Hans Solo (played by Harrison Ford) and she was a fearless leader.
3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND: My family, my ipad, and a comfy bed.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE: Chocolate – in pretty much any form!
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE: “Out of Africa” with Meryl Streep and Robert Redford. In fact, pretty much any movie with Meryl Streep.
FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL: Whilst I have been lucky to have visited and lived in several different countries, I would really like to take my kids on safari in Africa one day.
IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE: Something that still focuses on health and well-being.
