Course overview
This course is designed to equip allied health professionals with a solid understanding of how Medicare Eating Disorder Treatment Plans (EDTPs) operate within Australia’s mental health system. You’ll gain the knowledge and skills to work within the EDTP framework.
Course objectives:
- Understand the role of Medicare EDTPs in providing comprehensive, evidence-based treatment for individuals with eating disorders.
- Gain in-depth knowledge of eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and reimbursement processes for EDTPs.
- Explore the multidisciplinary components of EDTPs, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment goals, evidence-based interventions, and progress monitoring.
- Learn how to collaborate effectively with GPs, psychologists, and other team members in the development and implementation of EDTPs.
- Explore the specific roles of allied health professionals in supporting clients through the EDTP framework, maximising positive outcomes.
- Develop skills in progress monitoring, documentation, and communication relevant to EDTPs.
- Understand strategies for maximising reimbursement and navigating the Medicare billing process for EDTP services

About the Workshop:
This online, two day, interactive training provides participants with a solid understanding of Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E) and practical skills to implement it with clients. CBT-E is a transdiagnostic approach to treating eating disorders, considered to be a gold standard, front line treatment for adults. It is a manualised and structured intervention that is simultaneously highly personalized and targets the factors that maintain a person’s eating disorder.
The efficacy of CBT-E is supported by the fact that It is one of the modal training recognised by the Australian Eating Disorder Credentialing program and also one of the therapies that can be delivered for medicare subsidized treatment under the Eating Disorder Treatment Plan .
The training will provide a comprehensive introduction to the model including detail on implementing each of the four stages of CBT-E and the application of these to the full range of eating disorders seen in clinical practice.
Please note: a basic understanding of Eating Disorders and CBT are prerequisites for training.

About the Workshop:
CBT-E offers a promising new evidence based treatment framework for adolescents recovering from eating disorders. Similar to the adult version of CBT-E, the adolescent version is a personalized intervention that targets key maintaining features of eating disorders and provides an additional framework for working with an adolescent client, including involving family members as support. It is an individual treatment designed to enhance an adolescent’s agency and autonomy, build engagement and can be applied transdiagnostically. This one day workshop will support you to apply this model of treatment.

About the issue/ course:
Improving body image can be the most challenging element of working with clients recovering from disordered eating, particularly in this age of “normative discontent”. Often when our clients relationship with food is restored they continue to experience pervasive body shame. This workshop provides an abundance of practical skills to equip therapists to target body image concerns in clients.
Learning objectives:
- Understand the magnitude and impact of body image concerns
- Understand the extent to which our clients can make peace with their bodies
- Deconstruct the cultural landscape that breeds body image issues
- Understand how to use nuanced language to reduce body shame
- Identify clinical factors that perpetuate and maintain poor body image
- Implement CBT based exercises to improve client’s body image
