April recovery talk this saturday

We are thrilled to let you know about our April Recovery Talk which is being held this Saturday 28th April.

Recovery Talks are a forum where a guest speaker who has recovered from their eating disorder is shares their story of recovery with others- fellow sufferers, carers, partners and health professionals to name but a few people who benefit from this experience.

Our April guest speaker is DanielleDanielle developed Anorexia Nervosa at 19, nearing 20. After experiencing digestive discomfort it was suggested that she may have IBS, so she was asked to eliminate and re-introduce certain foods in order to try and identify the cause of her discomfort. However, this did not go to plan as she continued to eliminate foods and developed what she refers to as a ‘fear of food’. and ‘discomfort mixed with a sense of confusion about the compliments she was receiving in relation to her appearance/weight loss’. Danielle left university to focus on her recovery, which she remembers as being a scary and confronting journey; especially because she also developed Bulimia Nervosa whilst trying torecover from Anorexia Nervosa, which brought on new concerns and challenges to overcome. According to Danielle, the key to her recovery was understanding her personality and the unhelpful coping mechanisms that she used during stressful periods. Danielle is now 26 years old and currently works in Communications at the Butterfly Foundation. She is very passionate about developing peer led interventions that connect those in recovery with those who have recovered.Danielle is excited to share her story with us on Saturday.
