Meet Joss – Q&A
NICKNAME: I generally just get called Joss, there’s not much you can shorten it to!
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Psychological Science, Graduate diploma of Psychological Science
ACHIEVEMENTS: My greatest achievements are the qualifications listed above!
WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY? I studied psychology as a subject in school from year 10 onwards, and since then I’ve known it’s the area I wanted to go into. I’m naturally quite calm and empathic which I think definitely drew me to this profession
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS? I have a real interest in helping individuals with disordered eating. I also really admire the values of BodyMatters and I have heard only good things about the practice
YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE: “Life is tough but so are you”
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS: Using my degree to create meaningful change in people’s lives, in whatever capacity that may be
FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES: I love outdoor walks/hikes, I play social netball which I enjoy
FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS: I love travelling and spending time at the beach! I also thoroughly enjoy a games night
WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL: I’m really good at shuffling a deck of cards, it seems to be an impressive party trick!
WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU: Brene Brown is the first person to come to mind when asked who inspires me. I am inspired by people who demonstrate gratitude, despite hardships they may have experienced. I believe gratitude is the secret to overall happiness
WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES: My older sister was my childhood hero, I always admired how much joy she would (and still does) bring to people and she always made me feel very loved
3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND: My dogs, a deck of cards and a block of chocolate
WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE: Chocolate! And a glass of red wine
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE: I’m honestly not a big movie watcher, but I would generally choose a drama of some sort
FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL: I did a 6-month exchange in Canada, so that will always hold a special place in my heart. I could also never get sick of sailing the Greek Islands on a boat, that country is absolutely beautiful!
IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE: I’m very happy I ended up in psychology, it really is my biggest passion. However if not psychology I think something like midwifery just because I have quite an obsession with baby cuddles
