NICKNAME: Em

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Health Science (Epidemiology) and I am currently studying a Graduate Diploma of Psychology at Sydney Uni.

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Completing my Bachelor of Health Science was a huge achievement for me, as well as getting into the University of Sydney to study Psychology. Another achievement of mine was hosting a High Tea charity event in 2016, where I raised $4,000 for the Butterfly Foundation.

WHY DID YOU PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY?

I began my Graduate Diploma of Psychology with the aim of acquiring skills to help people suffering from an Eating Disorder. I am absolutely loving learning psychology and am excited to be able to use it to help others in the future.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO WORK AT BODYMATTERS?

I feel very fortunate to work at BodyMatters as they have a highly regarded national reputation. My work at BodyMatters also allows me to study psychology and work in an area that I am passionate about at the same time.

YOUR FAVOURITE QUOTE:

“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” – Lao Tzu

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS:

I hope to be a Clinical Psychologist working in the field of eating disorders. I also hope to be able to speak fluent Japanese, as this will enhance my experience during future trips to Japan.

FAVOURITE SPORTS OR ACTIVITIES:

I am really enjoying group boot camp on Bondi beach at the moment! I have been waking up early so that I can exercise with the sunrise. It always feels amazing to start the day that way. After boot camp I have been jumping into the ocean – also an amazing feeling first thing in the morning!

FAVOURITE HOBBIES OR INTERESTS:

I love reading a good book and spending time with my two guinea pigs. I also love to be outdoors – whether this is at the beach or in the mountains. My partner and I also enjoy doing the Bondi to Bronte walk whenever we get a chance!

WHAT IS YOUR SECRET SKILL:

Organisation! I own three different planners.

WHO OR WHAT INSPIRES YOU:

Melissa Ambrosini and Dr Laura Hill.

WHO WERE YOUR CHILDHOOD HEROES:

Sailor Moon and Xena the warrior princess.

3 THINGS YOU WOULD TAKE ON A DESERT ISLAND:

  1.     My guinea pigs (Louise and Raeleen)
  2.     My family + partner (hopefully I can count this as one category!)
  3.     Favourite fruits and vegetables to grow

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE INDULGENCE:

Messina ice-cream. Yum!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE MOVIE:

Wonder Women – I saw this on the plane and almost watched it a second time!

FAVOURITE PLACES TO TRAVEL:

Japan is my favourite travel destination so far. My dad and I hiked part of the Kumano Kodo there a couple of years ago and I became fascinated with the smaller towns and Japanese culture. We stayed at a Buddhist temple in Mount Koya, which has been my favourite travel experience.

IF YOU DIDN’T PURSUE PSYCHOLOGY, WHAT OTHER PROFESSION WOULD YOU PURSUE:

If I didn’t study Psychology, I would still want to pursue my passion of helping people with eating disorders. To do this, I would either try to get into medicine to become a psychiatrist, or study Nutrition and Dietetics.
